Highlights from Synod and Festival of Tents – 17 to 31 October 2020

As the world adapts to new ways of working and interacting safely, Synod took place via zoom this year.  Synod business items were addressed during the Saturday morning sessions where the Moderator, the Revd Dave Herbert chaired the meetings along with 29 ministers, 27 representatives and 30 visitors.  Anyone eligible to vote on the Resolutions was able to do so via the zoom platform.  Synod decisions taken included the lay presidency policy and changing Ministry and Mission contributions.

Each weekday morning, a short morning worship was held, which was well received, and this is continuing beyond the Festival.  If anyone would like to join us, it begins at 9.00 am each weekday morning and the zoom code is 982 5776 5048, password – worship.

The Festival of Tents was a virtual two week program held between the two Synod meetings where each “tent” had a theme or event which people could attend if it sparked their interest or was something they would find helpful or just simply wanted to come along to.

Events included a presentation about the importance of safeguarding training, a presentation and discussion from Andrew Roberts, the author of Holy Habits, a practical workshop for resourcing Christmas, Living Joyfully led by Dr Rebecca Dinsdale and appropriately for the unprecedented times we are living through, Church online and Church in the Digital Space.  There was also a quiz and a concert where people came together socially online and enjoyed music from Gareth Davies-Jones.
