Vacancy for a full time General Secretary to play a principal part in promoting the unique contribution of the Free Churches in British church life, enabling them to engage in effective mission in and to British Society.
Since the 1880s there have been bodies established to enable the 'Free Churches' to have a common voice and public presence. In 1940 the Free Church Federal Council was created, bringing together a number of predecessor bodies. The current Free Churches Group comprises twenty-four denominations, most of whom are also in membership with Churches Together in England with which this post will work in close collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
1. To enable its members to better affirm their commitment to the importance of the Free Churches Group within the strategic relationships of Churches Together in England.
2. To develop a clear identity alongside the Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches and other streams within CTE.
3. To continue to develop a continuing Free Churches role within society, particularly with regard to chaplaincy and education.
4. To explore further ways of speaking out together in the public arena.
The post holder will also need to demonstrate, to an appropriate level, the relevant professional skills for working in such an
environment, including management and leadership, working alongside senior Church leaders, and staff cooperation. The post
holder will be a member in good standing, of a member church of the Free Churches Group, with a commitment to the
objectives and core values of the Free Churches Group.
The appointment is full time and the post holder would be based at Tavistock Square London.
