We will be more confident to engage in evangelism, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God with friends, families and strangers, through story and action.

We need to re-claim an understanding and practice of evangelism. Learning to tell the Christian story and our ever evolving stories of faith needs to be a regular part of church life so that disciples of all ages are equipped and encouraged to share the good news of Jesus Christ in their daily lives. Equipped with a robust and reflective knowledge of the Bible and a commitment to openness, our churches will be communities where faith is explored and the questions of the present day engaged with. The call to ‘go’ into the world and ‘make’ new disciples (Matthew 28:19) being heard and taken up with imagination and creativity inspired by the Holy Spirit.

How will we know in the synod when this has been achieved?
Number of churches engaged with radical welcome
Number of churches using alternative worship as outreach (Messy Church, Garden, café)
Number of churches and members involved in street pastors / angels
Number of churches engaging with SCM evangelist  (Newcastle)
Number of churches engaged in ecumenical evangelistic opportunities (e.g. More than Gold; Big Read)
Number of churches engaged in local evangelistic opportunities (street parties, fun/family days, BBQ)
Number of churches involved in school outreach (assemblies, classes, visits)
Number of churches running Christian basic courses.
Number of churches with a cell group or other means of enabling folk to engage in evangelism amongst family, friends and contacts.
Number of churches sharing Christ with people in public spaces.
Number of churches with a high profile in the community through the use of mass media and other forms of communication such as social networks.
Number of churches engaging in evangelism in other ways.
