Set the scriptures in the centre
Sign of all we’re meant to be
Not as idol or a rule book
But as tale to set us free
Map for journey, tune to dance to,
Rising sun by which we see.

Where the cross can shed its light
This the lens by which we read them
Here the written word takes flight
Love unbroken sets the context
Of each passage – dark or bright.

When we meet to praise and pray
Let these tales of human frailty
Guide the things we think and say
Show us that the God who knows us
Sees the glory in the clay.

When we meet to plan and dream
Take their fire and leave the ashes
Let the Spirit guide each scheme
In our disputes and agreements
Common love must be our theme.

Of the faith in which we grow
Share in trust how reading guides us
