IDENTITY

The URC will be a Church where every local congregation will be able to say who they are, what they do and why they do it.

One of our greatest strengths is our diversity and flexibility which allows our churches, while remaining true to our Reformed ethos, to serve so creatively and effectively across a wide variety of contexts. However, constant pragmatism can lead to a lack of identity, focus and purpose. Our identity in Jesus Christ is central to our mission.
We want to encourage local churches to develop mission plans specific to their local contexts, which are owned by the membership of the church, allowing them to articulate clearly to friends, colleagues and neighbours ‘who they are, what they do, and why they do it.’

How will we know in the synod when this has been achieved?
Number of churches with a developing /active mission plan or similar.
Number of churches engaging with their Reformed and Uniting Heritage
Number of churches with a web site.
Number of churches having an open day.
Number of churches having a process for welcoming people.
Number of churches exploring their ecumenical and Reformed roots / heritage.
Number of churches with effective and active church governance.

Are there any specific ways the synod can ensure movement in this direction?
Signposting and provision of relevant resources. 
LMMR Local Mission and Ministry Review is a 4 yearly cycle of review of a churches life and mission accompanied by a partner from the wider church
