A MEDITATION ON THE STORY OF JAIRUS
by an elder at Wideopen
Lord,
In the gospel readings we heard of the simple trusting faith of Jairus and two un‑named women that enabled them to bend on their knees before your son, Jesus, sure in the knowledge that He would be aware of their presence and answer their prayers. As we travel on our personal journey help us to strive towards that relationship with you.
Help us to listen and to receive what your word has to said to us.
Prevent us from feeling that the words were meant for others but not ourselves.
Keep us from reading into your word what we want to hear but rather help us to listen to what you want to say.
Help us to improve our understanding of your word and when we have learnt what it is that you want us to do, give us the grace and strength to do it.
We know the importance of prayer in our lives.
Encourage us to remember that prayer is not simply a rescue from the abnormal, the extraordinary or at a time of crisis but it is taking our lives to you, the friend with whom we live day by day.
Keep us from doing as we like without asking what you want us to do. Show us how to be what you want us to be. Let us feel your presence in everything we do.
Lord we have no idea what lies ahead, what will be asked of us or where you will ask us to go. But we know that we can never be beyond your love and care. You will be with us all the way.
Above all help us to listen for your response to our prayers, deepen our faith and give us the strength to do whatever is required of us.
And so we come to you this morning to pray that; Although our hold on you may be sometimes insecure you will firmly keep your hold on us Although we may never reach complete certainty in this world our faith in you will be unswerving Although we cannot look for safety in earthly things our loyalty to you remains unshaken.
AMEN
