Helen Stephenson is the Church Related Community Worker in
Grindon an estate on the South side of Sunderland. Here the
small URC has maintained a presence through often difficult
times.
The CRCW project has brought together a wide range of community groups and has played a leading part in developing a sense of community that is bringing back pride into the area. The land at the back of the church is being developed into a community garden. Family zone works with children and young people during holidays. Monthly Messy Church is enabling many more people to engage with church and its worship life.
Living Christ,
we see you at work in Grindon, across the North East and throughout the world
and come to give you thanks.
When the hungry are fed and the needy clothed,
We thank you because we see your love at work.
When prisoners and patients are visited,
We thank you because we see your love at work.
When the stranger is made at home,
We thank you because we see your love at work.
When people with no power and no voice
are listened to with respect,
We thank you because we see your love at work.
When other people care about us and for us,
We thank you because we see your love at work.
When you give us a new chance and a new hope,
We thank you because we see your love at work. Amen
At the October 2009 Northern Synod meeting the Mission 4 Life fund was launched. It has three main strands:-
God of love,
Take and use the M4L fund
As part of establishing your kingdom.
Strengthen the unity of the churches of the Synod,
As we give and pray in support of each other.
Give each church a heart for mission
And so show your love to the communities around
Let each church proclaim the good news of Christ.
Bless those churches seeking grants
and the mission that they engage in.
Bless the Partners in Mission in what they seek to do.
May praises resound to you through this work. Amen.
Revd Glyn Evans serves as the Newcastle City Centre Chaplain with a team of others who visit various retail stores, businesses, public services and St James’s stadium.
The purpose of NCCC is:-
A prayer for the current financially difficult times:-
Lord God, we live in disturbing days:
across the world,
prices rise,
debts increase,
banks collapse,
jobs are taken away,
and fragile security is under threat.
Loving God, meet us in our fear and hear our prayer:
be a tower of strength amidst the shifting sands,
and a light in the darkness;
help us receive your gift of peace,
and fix our hearts where true joys are to be found
