St Andrew'sChurch supports Laura's Romania Challenge

A grandmother and her granddaughter worked together on a record-breaking coffee morning at St Andrew's United Reformed Church, Monkseaton and raised over £800 to help deprived children in Romania.

Laura Watkin, who has come up  through St Andrew's, is embarking on a Romania Challenge 2012, and is due to visit the country in July 2012 as an add-on to her university degree course in  Early Years Education at Northumbria University.  She arranged the coffee morning on Saturday 14th January, planning it with the help of her grandmother Barbara Watson, who is catering convenor and an elder at St Andrew's.  There was a cake stall, a craft stall with all items made by Laura, a raffle, map-finding game and of course coffee and scones.

Church publicity officer Heather Carr said "This was possibly the most successful coffee morning we have held at the newly refurbished St Andrew's in Monkseaton and the amount raised, in excess of £800, was something of a record for coffee mornings.  As a church we will all be supporting Laura with this mission in July."
