welliingtonsGardeners' Question Time from Crookham

The January 14th edition of the email newspaper The Clarion reports that our church at Crookham is to host Gardeners' Question Time later this spring.

The news was broken exclusively to The Clarion by Valerie Keating, chairwoman of the village hall’s gardening club, which first approached the popular Radio Four programme nine months ago.

“I heard from GQT assistant producer Amy Racs this week that the show had been given the go-ahead a good eighteen months earlier than anyone had believed possible,” said an excited Valerie, who pioneered the project and has led the negotiations.

The Crookham show will be recorded before a live audience at 6pm on either Monday or Tuesday March 12 or 13 in the village’s United Reformed Church. Crookham Village Hall will be used as a refreshment centre for the public before the recording. The BBC chose the church as its recording venue– with the enthusiastic agreement of minister David Herbert and his committee – because of its acoustics and the fact that it will hold an audience of up to 180 people.

The personnel involved have yet to be confirmed but the show’s regulars include Pippa Greenwood, Bob Flowerdew, Ann Swithinbank and presenter Eric Robson. The GQT team will combine the trip to Crookham with a location on
the Scots side of the border in the same week.
