Making a mark on history

URC members from Belford played a leading part in the Bible Society project that brought the People's Bible to Berwick as part of the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.

On Sunday 30th October and Monday 31st October 2011 locals and visitors alike were able to make their mark on history as a steady stream climbed the steps of Berwick Town Hall and added their verses to this "cyber bible". This was the only stopping point in Northumberland for the national tour of the project, which ends in November.

The Berwick leg of the prioject was opened by the Rt. Hon Sir Alan Beith MP who spoke about the heritage of the King James Bible and the history of Christianity which has strong roots in the Northumberland.

The People's Bible is part of a Bible Society Project, and was supported locally by organisers Ann Tunnard and Lisa Wilson from Belford and Felicity Sweeney from Coldstream. All who contibuted verses will be able to view their work on line at the People's Bible website, which gives more information about the project.
