These pictures were taken on Easter Day at Barnard Castle URC. They show the Labyrinth which was also in church for the Maundy Thursday service. Both services had the theme of "Journeys". Those who wanted to do so had an opportunity to walk the Labyrinth at the end of the service. A printed sheet was available to give some guidance.
Labyrinths were placed in cathedrals in medieval times, They were for poor people to use who could not afford to go on pilgrimages. They walked the Labyrinth instead.
This Labyrinth was made by members of the United Reformed Churches in Darlington and Northallerton and used on Holy Island as part of a pilgrimage last year.
Before being brought to Barnard Castle for Holy Week, the Labyrinth was taken over to Swaledale where it formed part of the "Prayer Fair" organised by the Swaledale Christian Council as one of their Lent Meetings.
