A spectacular work of art about global poverty will be visiting Durham Cathedral from 18–29 February as part of a Christian Aid’s Poverty Over Cathedrals Tour. Christian Aid will be working with Gateshead based development agency Traidcraft, to encourage visitors to engage with the issues facing the poor of our world.
The launch of the exhibition is on Saturday 18 February at 12pm, where Durham Cathedral Choristers will be singing. This will be followed by a study afternoon ‘Shared Faith, Shared Lives’, from 2.30–4.30pm, where there will be opportunity to explore what it means to be ’one body’ in a world of such inequality. The afternoon is designed for anyone who wants to explore how God is at work in the experience of the world’s poorest people.
‘Shared Faith, Shared Lives’ will be led by Sue Richardson, Christian Aid Church Relations Development Officer. Sue writes:
The Argentinian Methodist theologian, Jose Miguez Bonino, once said that we cannot share our faith if we do not share our lives. He was criticising particularly his own countrymen's approach to mission, but his charge has resonance for anyone who cares for the Good News that Jesus brought - fullness of life, a living relationship with the Father - to become a reality in our world today. This day gives us the opportunity to reflect on love and service, worship and solidarity, prayer and action in our own 'missionary' lives”
Both the launch and afternoon events are free of charge, but please contact Val Barron (Tel: 0191 228 0115) to book a place for ‘Shared Faith Shared Lives’
