The church meets in the Methodist building which was erected in 1897. The Methodist and United Reformed congregations joined together in 1982. Recent improvements to the church and hall have included facilities for the disabled, a fully equipped kitchen, and new carpeting and interior and exterior decoration.
The Church is part of the North Tyne Area Local Ecumenical Partnership. Many activities are shared with St Cuthbert's parish church and St Oswald's Roman Catholic Church - each church takes it in turn to host the community carol service, Remembrance Day service, Women's World Day of Prayer and Christian Aid service.
On March 7th 1999 two standards of the British & Normany Veterans' Association were laid up in the church at a special service. Since then a remembrance corner has been made, also incorporating the town's memorial plaques and those of the "drowned village" of Plashetts, a mining village near the border.
