Hannah Middleton offers some thoughts about preparing for the Day.
As Mothering Sunday approaches let us think just what the above statement might mean.
It could mean Thanks Mum for listening to me, helping me and being a shoulder to cry on. It could also mean Oh great! shown up again in front of my mates, are we on the same planet? Were you ever a child?
In the same way for some of us Mothering Sunday is a celebration while for others it can be a very difficult time.
Let us stop and think of mothers in the Bible.
How many can you think of?
Was life any easier for them?
Not everyone may have a Mum to turn to but they may have someone who is mother like for them.
Let us think of all that mothers all across the world do
Washing
Collecting water
Cooking
Feeding
Ironing
Nappy Changing
Shopping
Reading Stories
First Aid
Diplomat
Referee
Taxi Driver
Plumber
Gardener
Electrician
SecretaryThe list could go on for ever - and I'm sure that Dads and Grandfathers are a good help too.
Ask the children how many jobs there Mum does that they know of alternatively why not write some jobs on card allow the children to find them and place them in a pile, where a prayer can be said to thank God for all who care for us.
This may also be an opportunity for the children to make a card with some flowers on and say ‘Thanks a bunch' for all you do it really is great. Don't forget to say thank you to all the ladies in your Church who help you, such as the person who makes drinks after the service, or helps in Junior Church .
Let Us PrayDear Jesus we thank you for Mothers everywhere
For all who care for us day by day,
Let us not forget that you were a child
And your mother was Mary.We say thank you for Mums across the world
And in our country too,
Although we may not say it,
We think you are the best. So let us give grateful thanks
And let our voices be heard
For all the Mum's and Gran's
On this very special day. AmenHannah Middleton 2005
