In the week beginning 22nd August, I walked the 84 miles of the “Hadrian’s Wall Path” with my daughter Elizabeth. Like the C to C ride last year it was in aid of Ruadt Disabled Children’s Village in Tamil Nadu in South India with which West End Church has a special relationship.

We knocked off the Wallsend to Walbottle bit on the Monday afternoon and got stuck in on the real walk on Tuesday. Stages ranged from 12 to 20 miles and the central stages between Heavenfield and Gilsland are undoubtedly the most spectacular. It was a pity that about a quarter of the stage was walked in torrential, driving rain that filled our boots and reached parts that ordinary rain cannot reach!
There is interest over the whole route and we managed it without blisters also gaining a certain amount of pleasure by sampling the wide choice of local bitter available from selected hostelries.
The walk was well sponsored and I anticipate making about £800.00 by the time all offers are collected.
Thanks to those who supported us,
John Young and Elizabeth Manning.
